Socializing

Download the files below to get ideas on the importance of socialization and ideas on how to socialize during Social
Distancing.  Below that link is the AKC manual on socialization for puppies.  These are two great sources to help you with your socialization activities. We have also included a Checklist on goals for your socialization.

Part of our continued socialization is doing therapy work at our local convalescent hospitals with our adult dogs and puppies.

This was a recent visit to a special lady, Viana,  who had just lost a leg through amputation as a result of diabetes.  Spending time with her provided her much joy during this difficult time in her life.

Bradley, my sons Boxer, comes over to visit frequently to help with socialization of puppies.

The but up in the air is a playful gesture.

Bradley loves puppies and they love him too!

Bradley and Momma playing with the puppies.  Momma is wearing a T-Shirt so the puppies can't nurse during play time, while we are weaning them.

If dogs are left alone and not socialized with other dogs frequently,  when they are young,  they can become dog aggressive.  Be sure you are providing plenty of socialization opportunities to your puppy!  Group obedience puppy classes are a great way to provide the needed socialization.

It's important to socialize and you must take precautions when your puppy is not fully vaccinated.  Don't go to pet stores with your puppy or other places that people might take sick dogs and keep your puppy off the floor where disease can be tracked in on the feet but, you still have to socialize!

Rides in the car....Lots of rides in the car!

Proper way to introduce new pets is through a fence.

When bringing a new pet into the home with an existing pet the new pet goes into a crate for introduction.
