ROSA X ARNO LItter almost 3 weeks old

Picture

They have nearly doubled in size.  This is a very uniform litter.  Puppies are starting to try to get up on their feet now.  Just a few more days of Early Neuro Stimulations.  Eyes and ears should be opening in the next day or so but, they are still pretty helpless.   Rosa is being an excellent mother!

The puppies are now 6 days old.  Early Neurological stimulation is well on it's way.   The puppies are all doing well and gaining weight nicely.  This is a very uniform litter.  In just 4-6 more days the eyes and ears will be opening and then the real work begins!  They are beginning to show some of their color now too.  Rosa is being such a wonderful mother!

Puppies at 6 Weeks Old

Puppies at 4 Weeks Old

Puppies are now 5 weeks old.  They are only nursing at night as we are in process of weaning them.  They are reluctant to eat solid food as they much prefer moms milk.  By next week it will be difficult to keep them from scarfing down not only their food but their littermates as well, for the faster eaters.  The puppies run out of the den when they hear us coming as they are very familiar with our voices now. They are well on their way to potty training in the nursery and hitting the shavings in the weaning room 90% of the time.  It's exciting to see them playing and then suddenly running to the weaning room to potty.  They have graduated from the den to now having access to the weaning room and the play room.  There is a crate in the playroom that they enter and play in order to get familiar with the beginnings of crate training.  We close off the playroom at night to develop good sleeping habits.  The puppies will receive their first Spa Day today complete with bath and blow dry, nail trims and de-worming.  It will be a busy day for puppies.

Spa Day & Out for a Hike

Puppies are now 3 weeks old.  Today was a busy day.  We had a full spa day.  Everyone received their first bath, we trimmed 126 nails,  and then we did a photo shoot! We are all going to sleep well tonight.  Next week we will be introducing solid food.  Then, the potty training starts!  These are busy times.  Even though mom does most of the clean up, we still clean the puppy den 3 times a day now!  These puppies are calm and confident.  They are being introduced to common household noises;  vacuum cleaner, TV, Music, Laundry- which is running non-stop and other household noises.  They have met their father and the rest of the female pack here at the ranch.  They are beginning to play for short periods of time now but, they still spend most of their time eating, sleeping pottying and growing.  We will start seeing their personality traits shine in the next 10 days.  Check back for the updates.

Arno Der Shutzhund ~ Sire of this Litter

Picture
This is a repeat breeding so we know what to expect.  These puppies will have strong pigment, good bone, be gorgeous and have fabulous temperament.  They will be outgoing, and wonderful with children.  These puppies will be raised in our home from day 1.  They will go to their new homes with proper socialization and handling. Fabulous for Companion, Service, Obedience & Protection homes.

And here's Wilma aka LILLY.  She is going to Santa Ynez.

This is Fred aka ZEUS.  He fits his name.  He is the largest of the puppies.  I now have to feed him separately because he consumes more than his share!  He's going to be trained to be a service dog for a Alzheimers patient here in Paso Robles.

The puppies are almost 5 weeks old now!  They are outside most of the day.

We have received a deposit on one of these boys but the selection has not been made yet as to which one he wants.   If you are interested in a Male puppy from this litter, give me a call to reserve yours today.

Today we socialized puppies with some of the rescue dogs and the rest of our pack.  Look close, it's obvious that the dog on the left is not a German Shepherd but the the dog on the right is not a shepherd puppy either!

Despite the cold weather and rain, Potty Training is well on it's way.  The puppies are almost 5 weeks old now.  They have been transitioned outside during the day and come into the indoor kennel at night.

***************************************************************************************

The puppies are now 24 days old.  Despite the rain and cold weather, training must go on.  Today Mom is teaching them to eat solid food, they will be de-wormed, have their nails trimmed for the second time and transitioning outdoors for short periods of time.  They are each handled several times daily and introduced to new noises.  Toys are also introduced now and they play for very short periods of time.  It's still mostly about eating, nursing, eliminating and sleeping.

Picture

Bam Bam ~ Look at all the silver in his chest!

Picture
Picture

Bam ~ Bam . The smallest of the male puppies.  At this time we believe he will have a lot of black with silver & tan chest.  Very sweet puppy.  Settles down quickly when being held and doesn't mind his nail trims either.  A very willing puppy.

Picture

FRED ~   Is colored very much like Barney.  Still difficult to tell the difference between the two.  At this stage, I believe Fred to be the Alpha of the litter, but, we shall see.  Next week we will be able to see so much more of the personalities coming out.

Picture

MR SLATE ~ Oh so beautiful!  Quiet little boy.   Similarly marked like Fred and Barney just slightly smaller in size.  He just goes with the flow.

**************************************************************

The puppies are now 16 days old.  They have had their first nail trim.  Their ribbons have been changed 3 times already as they grow so fast.   Each of the puppies now have their temporary names.  We have named this litter after the Flinstones.  Their eyes are open now,  even though still cloudy.  Their ears are now open so they can hear the classical music we play for them throughout the day.  They are getting up on their legs now but they still stumble around like drunken sailors!   It is still too early to determine their personalities.  We have 1 male puppy available for Sale from this litter.

Picture
Arno Der Shutzhund - SIRE

This is Barney.   Barney is the second largest puppy in the litter and will be staying with me for an extra month for our training program.  He will have his basic obedience, crate training, potty training and have all of his puppy shots before going home to Ventura.  He is doing so well with his training.

Picture

Puppies all went for their first car ride today to go for their Adoption Wellness Exams at Atascadero Veterinary Hospital.  They received the full spa treatment with baths, blow dries, nail trims and de-worming.   Tomorrow they will be getting their first vaccinations in preparations to going to their new homes next week.

This little boy is Dino aka ANTON and will be going to Clovis.

Picture

This is Pebbles aka SASHA.  She will be going to Lompoc.  Her ears are almost up too.

Picture

This is Lilly again....she just always seems to get into the pictures more than the others.

Picture

Look close...someone else slipped into this picture!

We spend lots of time now outside hiking the property and exposing puppies to lots of different things like grass, dirt, bark, rocks, concrete, hills, logs etc.

Now the work really begins.  As we teach the puppies to eat solid food the potty training also begins.  They are only 3 weeks old!  We transition our puppies outdoors for short periods of time, due to the cold weather and rain.  They now have a sleep & play area, eat area and potty area in the kennels and the sleep & play area in the house as well.  They will be fed 3 meals per day and continue nursing.  After each feeding, outside, they will be placed on the shavings for elimination.  In just a few days, they will know to go to the shavings.   It is necessary to keep their sleeping area super clean to teach them that is not the place to potty.  You can't imagine how much laundry we do now!  Up until they begin eating solid food, mom keeps the den clean.   There will be lots of accidents and lots of cleaning!   But, they are really smart, it doesn't take long for them to catch on.   Puppies naturally do not want to potty in their sleeping area.  Your potty training is now started.  By the time you take your puppy home, he will already know there is a specific place that he should potty.   A great foundation for you to build on is in the works.  Remember to visit the potty training page so you can continue on the foundation that we have set for you!

Picture

PEBBLES ~ Very dark pigment and a little girl.  We anticipate she will look like her father She is very sweet and loves to be held.  She has a very willing personality.

Picture

Wilma ~ She is our big girl. Very light in her tan markings. Loves the toys already. A potential tracking prospect.  Hard to tell right now....we will see!

Picture

BARNEY ~  Independent is the best description of Barney at this age.  Barney is very vocal especially when his mom comes anywhere near.  He would spend all day eating if he could.  A busy, busy, busy, little boy.

Picture

DINO ~  Love this little boy.  Beautiful Black and tan markings.  Darker pigmented on the legs.  Still doesn't like to sit still for the camera! Again, so hard to see much yet.  Personalities really start to show in this next week.

The puppies are now 5 days old.  They have nearly doubled in size.  Their ribbons were changed today to accommodate for their growth.  Next week we will be trimming 126 toe nails!  They are each handled daily and weighed so we can track that they are gaining weight appropriately.  We have no long hairs in this litter and they are all pretty consistent with their black and tan markings with the exception of the smallest boy and the smallest girl, they are both darker in the face than their other brothers and sisters.  We will still see a lot of changes in their color in the coming weeks.

EARS:  At 7 weeks old and their first vaccinations we generally see one or both of the ears drop for a few days.  As you can see the above picture of Barley, to the right,  her ears at 4 weeks were up and now, at 7 weeks one has tuliped over.   They will rise again and fall as they go through teathing.  This is normal.   If your puppies ears are not standing by 4 1/2 months we recommend some assistance.   If you do not provide some assistance, your puppies ears may never stand!   Please do not wait to contact us.  We will assist you, if your puppy needs help getting his ears up.    We breed for strong ears so it is unlikely that your puppies ears won't stand on their own after teething is over.  Just don't wait to contact us if they are not standing by 4 1/2 months.

Our puppies are given tons of socialization with children, elderly, family pets.  They are exposed to surfaces like carpet, vynl, hardwood floors, rock, bark, grass, dirt, concrete.  They are bathed, have weekly nail trims.  They are potty trained to shavings at 4 weeks of age in a controlled area!   We have set a great foundation for you.

We spend lots of time out exploring
